Greenspoon Marder Law Shareholder Evett L. Simmons Reappointed to the American Bar Association’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession

Port St. Lucie, Fla. – March 25, 2015 – Evett L. Simmons, a shareholder in Greenspoon Marder Law’s Port St. Lucie office, has been reappointed to the American Bar Association’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession.

The mission of the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity is to serve as the leading advocate for racial and ethnic diversity within the American Bar Association. The commission provides services for racially and ethnically diverse lawyers, judges, and others who are in the legal profession.

Increasing diversity in the legal profession and the pipeline to the legal profession is not new to Simmons. In 2001 as president of the National Bar Association (NBA”), the first NBA Crump Law Camp for high school minority students across the country was established. Fifteen years later, the Law Camp continues at Howard University in Washington, DC, and the highlight is the Evett L. Simmons Mock Trial Competition. Greenspoon Marder, PA is one of its major sponsors. Three students from Florida have been selected for the 2015 Law Camp.

Simmons concentrates her practice in real estate, probate and guardianship administration, and litigation. In addition to her work in the legal industry, she is the Chair of the Firm’s Diversity Committee.

Simmons currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Florida Southern College and the American Bar Association Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession. She is a past president of the National Bar Association as well as the Port St. Lucie Bar Association. She is also a former member of The Florida Bar Board of Governors, the State of Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission and the Board of Directors of Enterprise Florida, Inc.

Simmons received her Juris Doctorate from Mercer University’s Walter F. School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from Florida Southern College. She is admitted to practice law in Florida.
