Fort Lauderdale Plane Crash
On the night of Wednesday, August 1, 2007, a twin-engine plane which had recently taken off from the Fort Lauderdale Executive airport made a crash landing off of Cypress Creek Road. All three on board walked away from the scene with minor injuries. No pedestrians or drivers were involved within the crash. The 24-year-old pilot was credited by the Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue for staying calm throughout the difficult process of crash landing a plane.
Minutes after taking off from the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, one of the two engines lost power thus leaving the pilot with no other choice but to land the aircraft nearby. Drivers present assumed that the pilot was attempting to land the plane on the road, but was unable do so due oncoming traffic. The pilot therefore skidded into a tree, just barely hitting the vehicles on the road.
The National Transportation Safety Board is scheduled to investigate the main reason for the accident.
