Defiance Movie Night
A Special Event to Benefit Save Darfur
Defiance tells the little-known, true story of a trio of Jewish brothers who rose against the Nazis in occupied eastern Europe. Fleeing to the forest, the Bielski brothers avenged the mass murder of their parents and family members, while saving hundreds of their brethren by creating a community hidden deep in the forest. Defiance is a Paramount Pictures film by Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai, 2003; Blood Diamonds, 2006) and stars Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace - a James Bond film, 2008) and Liev Schreiber (The Manchurian Candidate, 2004).
 While this compelling film tells a story of the Holocaust, the underlying theme is genocide. Defiance draws attention to the fact that history continues to repeat itself, in Darfur.

Our Guest of Honor Dr. David Herschthal, nephew of the Bielski brothers, adds special insight, as he talks about growing up with his uncles and why this movie is important to today's struggle against genocide.

About Our Guests of Honor
 Dr. David Herschthal is the nephew of the Bielski brothers. He is an accomplished dermatologist who resides and practices in Boca Raton and credits much of his success to his family's legacy of determination. Dr. Herschthal will share his story of growing up with the Bielski brothers, what this film means to his family, and what he hopes it will say to the world.
We also welcome Dr. Rosanna Gatens from the Save Darfur Coalition and Chair of Florida Atlantic University's Center for Holocaust and Human Rights.
