Miami, Fla. – April 11, 2016 – Greenspoon Marder is pleased to announce that Leslie Zigel , Chair of the firm’s Entertainment Law practice group in Miami, served as a panelist for an international legal symposium.
The American Bar Association Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries, and the University of Miami School of Law Entertainment and Sports Law Society, ABA Young Lawyer Division, and ABA Law Students Division hosted the International Legal Symposium on the World of Music, Film, Television and Sports April 7-8, 2016. The event took place at the University of Miami’s Don Shalala Student Center in Coral
Gables, Florida.
Zigel spoke on the panel entitled, “Presidential Campaigns, Politics, Presidential Leadership and Television: The American Odyssey.” The discussion covered legal and political aspects of presidential campaigns, presidential leadership and the incredible power and reach of television and television news to impact national politics. The panel of distinguished experts, joined by selected students and participants in the audience, discussed the significance of television coverage in a national presidential race, including coverage of breaking news on campaigns and campaign issues, campaign advertising and popular music, the influence of super PACs and instant polling, the right to protect a candidate’s brand, Federal Election Commission issues, federal equal time restrictions on political and non-political programs, the significance of “hot” or live political debates on TV, massive television ad dollars in the aftermath of Citizens United, the power over, and control of candidates by the networks, First Amendment rights of candidates and the importance of our national discourse on presidential campaigns and American democracy in this pivotal election year.
The moderator of the event was Richard Warren, Esq. and other panelists included: Peter Dekom, Esq.; David DiPietro, Esq.; David Fink, Esq.; Emily Patricia Graham, Esq.; as well as students Neda Ghomeshi and Devon Frampton.
Leslie José Zigel is a shareholder and Chair of Greenspoon Marder’s Entertainment Practice.
