Greenspoon Marder Law Shareholder Evett L. Simmons to Host Panel at the 60th Anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – December 1, 2015 – Evett L. Simmons, a shareholder in Greenspoon Marder Law’s Port St. Lucie office, has been selected to preside at the public meeting of the National Bar Association’s (NBA) CLE Civil Rights Commemoration of the 60^th Anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott at the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church. This event will focus on the role that lawyers played in the Montgomery Bus Boycott and Civil Rights Movement.

The NBA’s CLE Civil Rights Commemoration Tour will run from November 30 to December 1 and will include tour sites and events planned in Selma, Montgomery and Tuskegee. Prominent panelists include Current NBA President, Benjamin Crump, who is best known for representing the families of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown; Fred Gray, the attorney who represented Rosa Parks after she was ordered to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus; and Paulette Brown, the first African American female President of the American Bar Association. Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton will serve as the keynote speaker.

Simmons, who was appointed to the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in 2015, serves as the leading advocate for racial and ethnic diversity within the organization. The commission provides services for racially and ethnically diverse lawyers, judges, and others who are in the legal profession.

Simmons concentrates her practice in real estate, probate and guardianship administration, and litigation. She also serves as Chair of Greenspoon Marder’s Diversity Committee.

Simmons currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Florida Southern College. She is a past president of the National Bar Association as well as the Port St. Lucie Bar Association. She is also a former member of The Florida Bar Board of Governors, the State of Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission and the Board of Directors of Enterprise Florida, Inc.

Simmons received her Juris Doctorate from Mercer University’s Walter F. School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from Florida Southern College. She is admitted to practice law in Florida. She was also awarded an honorary law doctorate from Suffolk University.
