Greenspoon Marder Supports the National Bar Association’s Crump Law Camp & Evett L. Simmons Mock Trial Competition

West Palm Beach, FL – July 13, 2018 – Greenspoon Marder is proud to support the National Bar Association’s (NBA) Crump Law Camp & Evett L. Simmons Mock Trial Competition. The NBA Crump Law Camp is a two-week summer camp for high school students of diverse backgrounds, held at the famed Howard University campus, which introduces its campers to the American judicial system, law school, and the skills required to be an effective lawyer.

Additionally, students attending Crump Law Camp partake in the Evett L. Simmons Mock Trial Competition and compete for the opportunity to participate in the finals, which are held during the National Bar Association’s Annual Convention. The winner receives a laptop computer provided by Greenspoon Marder.

With only 10 percent of the nation’s lawyers being people of color, the primary goal of the NBA Crump Law Camp is to encourage young students of color to improve their grades in high school, attend college and enter law school. Ms. Simmons began the Law Camp in 2001 during her term as president of the National Bar Association, and named the camp after John Crump, the Executive Director Emeritus of the National Bar Association, for his years of service.

Ms. Simmons is Chair of Greenspoon Marder’s Diversity Committee. She’s a former member of the Florida Bar Board of Governors, the State of Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission, and the Board of Directors of Enterprise Florida, Inc.; she has also served as Chair of the Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education Committee and the American Bar Association Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession. Currently, she serves on the Board of Trustees of Florida Southern College and concentrates her legal practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and guardianship administration and litigation.
