Tapan R. Oza
Senior Counsel
Tapan R. Oza is senior counsel in the Litigation practice group at Greenspoon Marder LLP. Mr. Oza’s practice focuses on complex commercial and cross-border disputes. He has handled cases and issues involving the Federal Arbitration Act, including the enforceability of arbitral agreements (including by non-signatories), the availability of witness testimony, and the enforcement of arbitral awards. Mr. Oza’s recent experience includes cases involving extraterritoriality, choice of law, foreign law in U.S. courts, expert testimony, and Hague Evidence Convention requests. Mr. Oza has represented companies in class actions alleging securities fraud, commodities fraud, and RICO claims, including those tied to the collapse of a digital asset, and in seeking to enforce an arbitral award against a sovereign nation. Recently, he assisted an individual pursuing recovery on a judgment involving funds located abroad, an entity seeking to recover on a loan made to a foreign entity, and parties in contractual disputes involving licensing agreements and real estate matters. Mr. Oza represents clients in federal district and bankruptcy courts, state courts, and arbitral proceedings.
A member of the City Bar Justice Center’s Pro Bono Leadership Council, Mr. Oza also maintains an active pro bono practice. He has represented individuals in habeas corpus proceedings and record-sealing applications.
Mr. Oza earned his Juris Doctor degree while attending Columbia Law School and was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. During his third year of law school, Mr. Oza attended Sciences Po in Paris, France, earning a master’s degree in Economic Law. Prior to that, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from New York University, with a minor in French.

Representative Experience
- Representation of a company in connection with various class actions alleging, among others, securities fraud, commodities fraud and RICO claims following the collapse of a digital asset.
- Representation of a corporation in bankruptcy proceedings that were filed by creditors of its subsidiary-debtors who had purportedly seized control of the debtors in a foreign country.
- Representation of an exploration company whose subsidiary’s claim was expropriated by a sovereign against fraudulent transfer claims.
- Representation of individual in connection with a motion to disqualify the client’s former lawyers from questioning him as a third-party witness in an arbitral proceeding.
- Representation of a shipping company to enforce an arbitral award against a sovereign.
- Representation of a producer in connection with FERC pipeline ratemaking proceedings.
- Pro bono representation of an unaccompanied minor: filed a habeas corpus petition to challenge the client’s detention without a hearing or bond by the federal government following his 18th birthday.
