Owners of the BB&T Center are seeking approval from legislation to open a casino and hotel adjacent to the arena. Such approval would require the expansion of current gambling laws, and would open the door for many companies looking to compete in this market. “The chair of the senate committee, Senator Richter, said he thought it was a 50/50 whether or not there would be any legislation passed. The county may decide that they want to increase the rent. I assume that the county will seek increased revenue if you’re going to permit a casino to go there,” said Steve Geller.
