In the climate where House Republicans block most cannabis initiatives, the industry achieved a much-needed win in the House Appropriations Committee yesterday on Capitol Hill. For the first time in the history of cannabis legislation, the majority Republican House Appropriations Committee voted to include key language that prohibits funding to prevent states from implementing their own medical marijuana laws into the text of the base bill. Thanks to the leadership of Congressman David Joyce (R-OH), the industry will be able to avoid what would otherwise be an inevitable challenge on this integral industry protection by Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX) within the Rules Committee during the FY2019 Appropriations process.
