Newark, N.J. – March 7, 2023 – Greenspoon Marder attorney Kory Ann Ferro volunteered in the Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) Mock Trial competition held on February 23-25 in Arlington, VA. The 2023 Competition was PAD’s 16th year hosting the event. Ms. Ferro’s participation included serving as presiding judge for two rounds of competition, as well as assistant judge/bailiff for one round. Ms. Ferro attended the opening and closing receptions, as well as the alumni event hosted by the local alumni chapter in Virginia.
Ms. Ferro’s roots with PAD go back to her undergraduate studies at Temple University when she first joined PAD and competed in their undergraduate mock trial competition. Ms. Ferro’s membership in PAD continued into law school where she was elected Justice (president) of the Jackson Chapter at Rutgers School of Law – Newark during her 2L year. Ms. Ferro also competed twice in PAD’s law school mock trial competition with her team, taking first place in 2012 and being awarded Best Prosecution Team and Best Witnesses. Ms. Ferro was also honored with the Best Advocate award in 2012.
In reflecting of attending the competition as a judge, Ms. Ferro stated, “It was very rewarding to return to the PAD law school mock trial competition from the other side of the ‘bench.’ I found the experience of preparing a case and presenting it to practitioners to be invaluable as a student and I am glad to have the opportunity to now provide that to aspiring litigators. I also enjoyed reconnecting with other PAD alumni from across the country.”
Phi Alpha Delta is the world’s preeminent law fraternity with dedication to servicing students, the school, the profession, and the community. The annual PAD Law School Mock Trial Competition is an opportunity for law students to practice trial advocacy skills in a courtroom setting. Students develop skills including creative problem solving, effective collaboration, forming a persuasive argument, public speaking, critical thinking, and thinking on their feet. The Competition provides the opportunity for teams comprised of four PAD Law Chapter members each to compete on a national level, not just within the local community. Students compete for first through fourth place, with additional honors for outstanding defense, prosecution, advocates, and witnesses awarded. The competition is judged by volunteer lawyers & judges (both PAD alumni and non-members) and Mock Trial veterans who offer invaluable, real-world feedback.
Ms. Ferro is senior counsel in the Litigation practice group at Greenspoon Marder LLP. She has an extensive background representing local, national, and global companies in commercial litigation on both the plaintiff and defense side.
