Ft. Lauderdale, Fla –November 5, 2013- Greenspoon Marder attorneys Rebecca Bratter and Jeffrey Backman are the proud parents of four (4) of the members of the Board of Directors for Kids Can. Greenspoon Marder is one of the original sponsors of the Kids Can Foundation, and over 100 Greenspoon Marder employees recently raised money to support the Foundation.
The Founder and President of the nonprofit Kids Can Foundation is only seven years old and board members range in age from three to nine, but they and their friends have a powerful holiday message and lesson: you are never too young to learn and practice the art of giving.
More than one hundred children, ages 1 to 16, will participate in a Kids Can Foundation fundraiser to help homeless families for the holidays. The event will be from 3-5 pm, Sunday, December 8th at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center, Orlove Auditorium, 5850 South Pine Island Road, Davie, Florida.
The children will each create their own unique Houses for Change house-shaped collection box that they will then fill with change. The money they save will be donated to two nonprofits that help homeless families, the Broward Outreach Center and Family Promise, the national sponsor of Houses for Change. Through its 182 chapters in 41 states, Family Promise helps homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence. At a young age, these children are learning and practicing the values and habits of charity, altruism and saving. “We want to raise money to help kids that don’t have the opportunity to do what we do,“ said Board President Logan Bratter.
Kids Can Foundation is based on the concept of kids helping kids. Its mission is to unlock the potential in children by empowering them to give back to the community and enrich the lives of children who are less fortunate.
Houses for Change is an award-winning national homelessness awareness campaign for kids with homes to help kids without. Since its launch in 2010, 30,000 kids nationwide have raised more than $400,000 for homeless charities in the Houses for Change collection boxes they made. In addition to the kids of the Kids Can Foundation, Houses for Change has been adopted by families, schools, congregations, homeless organizations, the United Way, and the YMCA to engage their youth in a meaningful service project. Houses for Change is more than a fun arts and crafts fund-raising project, It also enables kids and families to realize that they can help homeless families.
