Miami, Fla – January 21, 2020 – Greenspoon Marder entertainment attorneys, Leslie José Zigel and Javier Feito, served as lead counsel for MBS Productions, the producer of the recent Billboard Latin Music Awards. The award ceremony was the first fully live TV music production since COVID-19 safety protocols were released. In their role as lead counsel, Mr. Zigel and Mr. Feito handled the event’s production legal and interfaced with the applicable unions and guild’s in addition to overseeing the implementation of SAG-AFTRA’s safety protocols.
Set to occur on April 23 in Las Vegas, the 27th Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony was postponed due to the Nevada Governor’s recommendations to limit the size of public gatherings for the prevention and containment of COVID-19. Thanks to the careful and thoughtful planning of the participating parties, the ceremony was a success by any measure. It reached 3.5 million total viewers, ranking as the number one Spanish-language special in primetime since the onset of the pandemic.
“We are thrilled to have been a part of making this award ceremony happen while still adhering to the COVID-19 protocols put in place to keep the artists and production teams safe,” Mr. Zigel stated. “Leslie and I understand how difficult this pandemic has been for many and are pleased to have been a part of bringing live music award ceremonies back to TV,” commented Mr. Feito.
In addition, Greenspoon Marder clients Carlos Vives was honored with the Hall of Fame award, Wisin received the Tropical Song of the Year award and Latin Rhythm Duo/Group of the Year award, and Pitbull performed as well.
