Fort Lauderdale, FL – May 1, 2018 – A team of Greenspoon Marder attorneys prepared and filed on Friday April 27, 2018 a Design patent for a device known as the “JustinKase” that could help save lives in the event of the school shooting.
Created by Somerset High School senior, Justin Rivard, in shop class, the JustinKase is a device made of steel plates and connecting rods that can be placed under a classroom door and will latch to the door’s jamb. Having tested his device with high school football players, Rivard believes his invention could stop school shooters from entering a classroom and could protect students and teachers. Somerset High School has already ordered 50 JustinKase devices and has conducted safety drills using them.
“The mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida and other recent school shootings have impacted our Greenspoon Marder family immensely,” said Dr. Kelly Hollowell, chair of Greenspoon Marder’s Intellectual Property group. “We are honored to assist Justin in his efforts to develop this innovative device that could help protect the lives of students and teachers in emergency situations across the country.”
The JustinKase is currently awaiting patent approval and is being sold online for $115 at www.dominatesafety.com.
