Orlando, Fla. – Feb. 3, 2014 – Shareholder, Edmund Loos III, of Greenspoon Marder Law’s Orlando office, will host the Sunny Shores Sea Camp (SSSC) 25th Annual Golf Tournament in March at The Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Pointe, in support of Cystic Fibrosis.
In 1991, Loos and his wife Gina began volunteering at Sunny Shores Sea Camp, which at the time was a free, two-week camp for children with cystic fibrosis located in the Florida Keys. Over the years Sunny Shores has changed its format from a residential week long summer camp for children to a weekend respite camp for children, young adults, and their immediate families. The summer camp experience comes in the form of a three-night, four-day camp that allows attendees to gain tools and information which will help them to lead more active lives. Nutrition, exercise, hand-washing, positive mental well-being and general lung health are closely linked. The camp’s programs address these issues. Having previously served as the vice president and treasurer of the Sunny Shores Sea Camp, Loos serves as a permanent Trustee and Golf Tournament Chairman.
Falcon Batchelor, in 1980, was instrumental in founding Sunny Shores Sea Camp (SSSC) for Cystic Fibrosis. Falcon lived with cystic fibrosis for 35 years. Early in 1990, Al Massena and Dana Munsey, both friends of Falcon, discussed hosting a golf tournament as an annual fund raiser for SSSC. With the help of Bob Catel and many volunteers the first tournament took place in May 1990. Falcon attended the 1st annual SSSC golf tournament and was pleased with the success. Two months after the inaugural golf event, Falcon lost his battle with cystic fibrosis. In 1991, the Sunny Shores Sea Camp Golf Tournament was renamed The Falcon Batchelor Memorial Golf Tournament to honor Falcon’s contribution.
With the recent passing of long-time friend of 24 years and President, Dana Munsey due to Cystic Fibrosis, Loos aims to continue his mission and bolster the organizations efforts by hosting the annual golf fundraiser at his home course, The Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Pointe, located in Windermere, FL. The 2015 Sunny Shores Sea Camp Golf Tournament has been renamed The Dana Munsey Memorial Golf Memorial Golf Tournament in honor of Munsey’s contribution to the Camp and to secure his legacy.
“Being that we had so many of the members coming from different parts of the state to participate, it made sense for us to host it in Orlando this year, since it is very centrally located and an easier meeting point. I am also honored to be hosting the tournament this year for such a wonderful organization that I have been a part of for many years. Dana was a devoted mentor, leader in the Cystic Fibrosis community and a true friend to all,” said Loos.
