Crespo Joins Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch on Second Phase of Six Jurisdiction Tour as a part of the President’s Task Force
MIAMI, Fla. – February 11, 2016 – Manny Crespo, a shareholder in Greenspoon Marder’s real estate group, recently participated in the second phase of the national Community Policing Tour for implementing recommendations as a part of the President’s Task Force on February 10-11. Crespo was invited to participate in this phase by Willy Ferrer, Assistant United States Attorney.
In this phase, the Attorney General will visit six jurisdictions around the country that have excelled in each of the six pillars discussed in the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing Final Report: (1) Building Trust and Legitimacy; (2) Policy and Oversight; (3) Technology and Social Media; (4) Community Policing and Crime Reduction; (5) Officer Training and Education; and (6) Officer Safety and Wellness. The trip to Miami Dade County will highlight pillar 1 – building trust and legitimacy.
“I am very honored to have been invited to participate in this event and that I will be present at this meeting with other community leaders across South Florida,” said Crespo. “I am equally excited that I will be there as a partner and representative of Greenspoon Marder,” he continued.
While in Miami-Dade County, the Attorney General will be joined by U.S. Attorney Ferrer, Director Ronald Davis of the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), Assistant Attorney General Karol V. Mason of the Office of Justice Programs and Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta of the Civil Rights Division for a convening with law enforcement, local officials and other members of the community at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami.
The Attorney General will also host a youth town hall with student “Peace Ambassadors” to discuss police-community relations and visit the Doral Police Department to recognize the department’s commitment to community policing strategies through the Blue Courage initiative. Also during her visit, Attorney General Lynch will be available to the press at the historic Freedom Tower, visit with Miami-Dade Police Department officers and thank them for their service to the community, tour the Black Police Precinct & Courthouse Museum and visit staff at the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Florida.
The Attorney General’s national Community Policing Tour builds on President Obama’s commitment to engage with law enforcement and other members of the community to implement key recommendations from the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing final report. The first phase of the tour launched on May 19, 2015, in Cincinnati and also included visits to Birmingham, Alabama; Pittsburgh; East Haven, Connecticut; Seattle; and Richmond, California.
In addition to the practice of law, Mr. Crespo has made a significant and continuing contribution to the community. He recently concluded his term as president of the Cuban-American Bar Association, one of the largest minority voluntary bar associations in Florida. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Dade County Bar Association, Legal Services of Greater Miami, and as Chairman of the Grievance Committee of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit for the Florida Bar. He was recently appointed by Florida Bar President, Ramon Abadín, to co-Chair the Florida Bar Committee for Diversity and Inclusion. In addition, Mr. Crespo has been honored by CABA and Legal Services of Greater Miami for his indefatigable efforts providing legal services to the poor and needy. He was most recently appointed to the Chief Justice’s Advisory Committee for the Pro Bono Service Awards by Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Jorge LaBarga. The Broward County Hispanic Bar Association recognized Mr. Crespo for outstanding leadership. He is also a “Top Producer” for The Fund (Old Republic National Title Insurance Company) for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, a recognition reserved for the top 3% of title agents in a circuit for premiums generated.
