GREENSPOON MARDER OBTAINS UNANIMOUS APPROVAL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF
FATcity in FORT LAUDERDALE
Fort Lauderdale, FL – August 9, 2017 – Greenspoon Marder secured final approval from the Fort Lauderdale City Commission on behalf of The Traina Companies for the development of FATcity, a major, 1.3 million-square foot mixed-use development located at 300 N. Andrews Ave. in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
FATcity will consist of two 30-story towers featuring 270,000 square feet of office and retail space with the potential for hospitality space, 612 residential units and 1,327 covered parking spaces. The new construction, designed by Adache Group Architects, will be the first new Class A office space developed in Fort Lauderdale in over a decade.
Situated in the City Center (RAC-CC) Special Zoning District, the development will connect the city’s Central Business District and Arts Districts through pedestrian-oriented streets, access to Brightline’s high-speed rail station and a Wave Streetcar stop on-site. Groundbreaking on the project is estimated for late 2018 or early 2019.
The Greenspoon Marder team representing The Traina Cos. was led by Shareholder Steven Wherry. Mr. Wherry focuses his practice on land use and zoning law. According to Wherry, “One issue that came up late in our development review process related to negative perceptions of our proposal’s impacts to the city. We overcame this objection and won approval for the FATcity development proposal by emphasizing the quantifiable benefits our project will deliver in reducing the public infrastructure costs to the benefit of city residents.” He added, “it was a pleasure to work with the Trainas in bridging differences with community stakeholders, finding common ground, and bringing this project through to entitlement approval.”
