RE-ELECTED TO THE FLORIDA BAR BOARD OF GOVERNORS
Miami, FL – December 17, 2016 – Greenspoon Marder shareholder Deborah Baker-Egozi has been re-elected to The Florida Bar Board of Governors to serve a two-year term beginning June 2017. Ms. Baker-Egozi drew no opposition and will retain Seat 4 in the Eleventh Circuit.
The 52-member Board of Governors has exclusive authority to formulate and adopt matters of policy concerning the activities of the Bar, subject to limitations imposed by the rules regulating The Florida Bar. Since her election to the Board of Governors in April of 2016, Ms. Baker-Egozi has been advocating for the passage of a Rule of Judicial Administration known as the Parental Leave Rule. The Rule would generally require the granting of trial continuances based on parental leave, barring exceptional circumstances. It is expected that a proposed Rule will come before the Board of Governors for vote in early 2017.
Ms. Baker-Egozi focuses her law practice in the area of commercial litigation, with significant emphasis in the areas of business and real estate litigation. Ms. Baker-Egozi has represented public and private companies in a variety of corporate litigation matters, and has represented receivers. Ms. Baker-Egozi was the 2014-2015 President of Miami-Dade Florida Association of Women Lawyers (FAWL) and in that role, was instrumental in the passage of legislation outlawing what is known as “revenge pornography.”
