GREENSPOON MARDER SPEAKS ON LEGAL DEFENSE FOR CANNABIS BUSINESS OWNERS AT THE 2016 CANNABIS WORLD CONGRESS & BUSINESS EXPOSITION
NEW YORK– June 16, 2016 – Keelin Kavanagh and David Jaroslaw, shareholders at Greenspoon Marder’s New York office, along with scientific analyst Dr. Naira Gorovits, recently shared legal defense strategies with cannabis growers and sellers at the 2016 Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition in New York City, with their presentation of “Now You Can Sell It – Now They Can Sue You.”
Currently, twenty-four states and the District of Columbia have laws that recognize cannabis use for medical purposes; an additional four states allow recreational marijuana use. Greenspoon Marder’s panel discussed the steps necessary to avoid legal issues when a cannabis customer blames a disease or other health consequence on his or her cannabis use and attempts to sue the growers and sellers. The speakers touched on tort claims made against marijuana growers and sellers, and how companies could properly address these situations.
