Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – February 9, 2015 – Greenspoon Marder Law shareholder Jeffrey A. Backman will serve on the Publications Board of the Commercial Litigation Committee (CLC) for the Defense Research Institute (DRI).
Backman will serve as Co-Editor for the May 2015 issue of The Voice and as a Publications Board Member for the November 2015 issue of The Business Suit.
The CLC is the DRI’s fifth largest substantive law committee, which covers business torts, antitrust, class actions and more. The DRI is the paramount organization for both defense attorneys and in-house counsel. The mission of the DRI is to educate and improve the skills of defense attorneys while striving to improve the civil justice system.
Backman is a member of the Complex Business Litigation group at Greenspoon Marder Law. He focuses his practice on complex class action defense and general commercial litigation. He has defended clients in federal courts throughout the country, and is at the forefront of the legal landscape involving the telemarketing industry.
Backman also advises clients in legal compliance matters and defends clients before all regulatory bodies such as the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Communication Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and States Attorneys General.
He is an active member of The Florida Bar and The Broward County Bar Association. He was a Broad Fellowship Mentor, a member of Leadership Broward Class XXVIII, an executive director of the B’nai B’rith Justice Unit, and served on the Board of Directors for L.E.A.D. Previously, he served on the Board of Trustees for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and in 2007, the organization recognized him as “Man of the Year.”
Backman was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2003. Prior to obtaining his law degree, magna cum laude, from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center, he earned his B.A. in Criminal Justice from Florida Atlantic University.
