The Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol has officially qualified its adult-use marijuana initiative for the November ballot in Ohio. The group submitted more than 220,000 signatures in July, but the state required them to collect an additional 679 signatures. As discussed last week, the group believed it was able to do so during a 10-day extension.
On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, the Ohio Secretary of State’s office confirmed that the group had collected the necessary number of valid signatures and that the proposed law will appear on the November 7, 2023, general election ballot. This marks one step closer to the pending reality of the legalization of adult-use marijuana in Ohio.
According to a July 2023 poll conducted by Suffolk University/USA Today, 58.6% of Ohioans support legalizing adult-use marijuana, while 35% are opposed. The poll also found that support for legalization is highest among younger voters, with 76% of Ohio voters 18 to 34 years old in favor, while just 43% of Ohio voters over the age of 65 are in favor.
