Tallahassee, Fla. – July 15, 2014 – Michael E. Marder, Esquire has been reappointed by Governor Scott to a second term on the Fifth District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission (“JNC”). Former Governor Charlie Crist originally appointed Marder, co-founding partner of law firm Greenspoon Marder, P.A., in 2010 for a four year term which ended July 1, 2014. Governor Scott today announced his reappointment to the JNC, where he currently serves as chairman.
The Florida Judicial Nominating Commissions in each jurisdiction are integral to the appointment of District judges and Florida Supreme Court justices, as the JNC is responsible for providing the governor of Florida with a list of possible appointments to the various state courts. As prescribed by the Florida Constitution, when a notice of vacancy in a judicial office is issued by the governor, the JNC seeks applications from qualified individuals, interviews, and recommends potential appointments for the Governor’s consideration. Final recommendations are achieved by majority vote of the JNC members, all of whom must be personally appointed by the Governor, be members in good standing of the Florida Bar and have practiced law in Florida for a minimum of five years.
“I enjoy my role on the Commission and am pleased to be able to continue in this capacity,” Marder said. “The JNC’s responsibility is to recommend candidates who have the highest character, intellect, integrity and fair-mindedness for appointment to fill judicial vacancies. It is vital to our practice of law that we seek out applicants who understand the importance of an independent judiciary, and who respect the role of the courts to interpret and apply the law in a fair and impartial way,” Marder added.
Greenspoon Marder, P.A. was founded in 1981 by Michael Marder and co-founder Gerald Greenspoon. The firm has eleven offices in Florida and provides a full complement of legal services included real estate, civil litigation, personal injury and family law.
