Florida-Based Greenspoon Marder Announces Major Expansion
with Opening of New York Office
Move Continues Strategic Growth of Fast-Growing, Am Law 200 Firm
Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – April 4, 2016 – Greenspoon Marder, an Am Law 200 firm headquartered in Florida, announced today the firm’s latest expansion into New York as the lawyers and staff of Jacob, Medinger & Finnegan, LLP (“JMF”), a New York litigation boutique, join the firm on April 1, adding nine lawyers, including six partners (who will become Greenspoon Marder shareholders), one of counsel and two associates. JMF partner, Keelin Kavanagh, will lead the office as Greenspoon Marder’s New York Managing Shareholder.
The move is focused on enhancing the firm’s corporate and securities and real estate practices. It continues the expansion of Greenspoon Marder, which joined the ranks of the Am Law 200 law firms in 2015 and was recently identified by American Lawyer as one of the fastest growing Am Law 200 firms.
“Our goal is to be where our clients need us to be, and that requires that we build a national platform with offices in key business centers that matter to clients, so naturally, New York is a top priority,” said Gerald Greenspoon, Co-Managing Director of Greenspoon Marder. “In addition, corporate and securities and our high-level real estate practice are at the core of our strategic national expansion plan, and New York is at the epicenter of both sectors, so we are thrilled to open the office and welcome the JMF team.”
“We saw a natural fit with Greenspoon Marder,” commented Kavanagh. “Their success, like ours, has been based on their unwavering commitment to client service coupled with a clear vision and the entrepreneurial drive needed to build an outstanding and distinctive law firm. They also offer a robust business platform that will greatly enhance our ability to serve
our clients.”
JMF focuses its practice on sophisticated litigation matters, particularly complex corporate and commercial matters and the defense of product liability and mass tort litigation. They also have extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, with cases often involving highly technical, medical and scientific questions.
“Litigation is a core strength of Greenspoon Marder’s practice and extending those essential capabilities into New York was a logical approach for us,” said Michael Marder, Co-Managing Director of Greenspoon Marder. “We feel very fortunate to be adding such a high-caliber group of litigators to the firm and look forward to working with them to build a sophisticated, multi-disciplinary New York practice.”
The combination creates a firm of 181 lawyers, with 11 offices – nine across Florida, an office in Las Vegas and an office in New York. In 2015, it was ranked as an Am Law 200 firm and the firm’s revenues topped $100 million for the first time. Coincidently, the launching of Greenspoon Marder’s NY office also marks its 35th anniversary. The firm celebrates this milestone as a diverse law firm offering an array of transactional, litigation and regulatory practices and with a particular reputation for its real estate, hospitality, land use and zoning and broad regulatory and litigation capabilities.
Recent growth has seen the firm build its Miami office to 17 attorneys and professionals in a little over a year, as well as open new offices in Miami Beach and Tallahassee. The firm has also added new areas of practice, including an Alcohol Beverage Group, which is one of the largest of its kind in the United States, and an Entertainment Law practice.
