Fort Lauderdale, FL – July 7, 2025 – Greenspoon Marder is pleased to announce that attorney Barry Somerstein has been appointed as the next General Counsel and Vice President for Legal Affairs at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). In this full-time role, Mr. Somerstein will oversee the Office for Legal Affairs at NSU, providing legal services in transactional matters affecting all academic and administrative units. His work will aim to protect and advance the University’s interests as it continues to grow as a leading educational institution. He will join the university on July 21.
Mr. Somerstein brings to this position a deep understanding of NSU, having been closely involved with the University for many years. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Shepard Broad College of Law and is currently an active member of NSU’s Ambassador’s Board.
In conjunction with this new chapter, Mr. Somerstein will transition his role at Greenspoon Marder to of counsel, continuing his remarkable 48-year tenure with the firm.

Mr. Somerstein has dedicated more than four decades to representing clients in the negotiation, structuring, and documentation of real estate asset transactions. His work has primarily focused on hotels, condominium buildings, shopping centers, and office buildings. Mr. Somerstein’s extensive background has enabled him to assist countless clients in transforming raw real estate into fully developed, successful projects.
