Greenspoon Marder Attorney Manny Crespo Appointed to Florida Bar Grievance Committee

April 1, 2016

Miami, Fla. – March 31, 2016 – Greenspoon Marder shareholder, Manny Crespo, has been appointed to Florida Bar Grievance Committee C by Governor Jack Hickey of the Florida Bar Board of Governors.

This will be the second time that Mr. Crespo has served on a Grievance Committee. He previously served a three-year term that ended in 2013. In this time, he served as the Chair of Committee K.

Grievance committees are made up of volunteer members, at least one-third of whom are not lawyers. Each of Florida’s 20 judicial circuits has at least one such committee. The grievance committee reviews complaints with much the same purpose as a grand jury. That is, the committee decides, after a case is submitted to them by bar counsel, whether there is probable cause to believe a lawyer violated the professional conduct rules imposed by the Supreme Court of Florida and whether discipline against the lawyer appears to be warranted.

In addition to the practice of law, Mr. Crespo has made a significant and continuing contribution to the community.  He is recently concluded his term as president of the Cuban-American Bar Association, one of the largest minority voluntary bar association in Florida, and currenlty serves as President of the organization’s scholarship-awarding non-profit, The Cuban American Bar Association Foundation, inc..  He has served on the Board of Directors of the Dade County Bar Association, Legal Services of Greater Miami, and as Chairman of the Grievance Committee of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit for the Florida Bar.  He was recently appointed by Florida Bar President, Ramon Abadín, to co-Chair the Florida Bar Committee for Diversity and Inclusion.  In addition, Mr. Crespo has been honored by CABA and Legal Services of Greater Miami for his indefatigable efforts providing legal services to the poor and needy.  He was most recently appointed to the Chief Justice’s Advisory Committee for the Pro Bono Service Awards by Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Jorge LaBarga.  The Broward County Hispanic Bar Association recognized Mr. Crespo for outstanding leadership.  He has also recently been recognized as a President’s Circle member with Attorney’s Title Insurance Fund Services/Old Republic National Title Insurance Company a state-wide recognition typically reserved for the top three percent of title agents for premiums generated.
