Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – August 18, 2023 – Greenspoon Marder is proud to join the Human Rights Campaign’s Business Coalition for the Equality Act. Launched in March 2016, The Business Coalition is a group of leading U.S. employers that supports federal legislation that would provide the same basic protections to LGBTQ people as provided to other protected groups under federal law, also referred to as the Equality Act. This act would provide clear and consistent protections by prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, ensuring that LGBTQ employees are hired, fired, and promoted based solely on their performance. The bill would also prohibit discrimination in public spaces and services, and federal funding on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. In addition, the bill offers protection from discriminating against LGBTQ people in housing, credit, and jury services.
“Greenspoon Marder has been a long-standing supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. Equality is something that is in our firm’s DNA, which is why we have been providing same-sex benefits and protections for decades. We are thrilled to have joined other like-minded businesses in a coordinated effort to ensure that all people in the United States are afforded equal treatment under the law. As Chief Impact Officer, I am proud of the strides our firm has made in our journey. Greenspoon Marder stands united with the mission of the Business Coalition of the Equality Act,“ said partner and Chief Impact Officer Myrna L. Maysonet.
Currently, there are 546 member companies, including Greenspoon Marder, that are part of The Business Coalition for the Equality Act, operating in all 50 states with headquarters spanning 34 states, along with a combined $7.8 trillion in revenue all while employing over 16 million individuals across the nation.
