Los Angeles – October 31, 2023 – Greenspoon Marder partner and head of the Insurance Recovery and Counseling practice group Richard C. Giller has been selected by the College of the Holy Cross Lawyers Association (HCLA) to receive the 2023 Distinguished Service Award. The award is traditionally bestowed by the HCLA on an individual, a group of Holy Cross graduates, or faculty members, to recognize their outstanding contribution to the legal profession for making a positive difference in the lives of others through the provision of legal services. The award will be presented to Mr. Giller during the annual Holy Cross Winter Homecoming on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at an event hosted by the HCLA.
Founded in 1843 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the College of the Holy Cross is among the nation’s leading liberal arts institutions. A highly selective, four-year, exclusively undergraduate college of 2,800 students, Holy Cross is renowned for offering a rigorous, personalized education in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition. The HCLA, meanwhile, is an association of legal professionals who strive to live according to the highest intellectual and ethical standards and apply this commitment to excellence in service to others and in service of justice. Among the many distinguished Holy Cross alumni who later obtained a law degree are Clarence Thomas, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Edward Bennett Williams, legendary trial attorney, and Robert Casey, U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania.
Mr. Giller concentrates his legal practice on recovering insurance benefits from recalcitrant insurance companies on behalf of his institutional and individual professional athlete clients as well as counseling sports teams and leagues. With over 37 years of experience, Mr. Giller develops litigation strategies for complex insurance and commercial disputes. He has represented policyholders all over the U.S. and has successfully secured hundreds of millions of dollars in defense costs, settlements, and indemnity payments on behalf of his clients. Prior to pursuing a legal degree, Mr. Giller attended the College of the Holy Cross and became a proud alumnus in 1981 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in history.
