The Holocaust Documentation & Education Center Acquires World War II Sherman Tank
Ft. Lauderdale, FL – June 03, 2016 – On Friday, June 3, the Holocaust Documentation & Education Center (HDEC) held an event to preview its newly acquired World War II M 4A3E8 Sherman Tank, the type that liberated the Dachau concentration camp in Germany.
Steven A. Geller, Chairman of the Board of the HDEC and a former state senator, stated: “For many this tank is a symbol of liberation from the horrors of Dachau. The HDEC now has an authentic Railcar that carried the prisoners to Hell, and the type of tank that knocked down the barbed wire at concentration camps and rescued them from Hell. It is our mission to document and present an enduring and historically accurate record of the Holocaust in the hopes of teaching the universal lessons that led to this horrific assault on humanity—and thereby preventing it from happening again.”
U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, who was instrumental in the acquisition of the tank, was present at the event. The Sherman Tank will remain permanently displayed at the HDEC located at 303 North Federal Highway in Dania Beach, Florida.
Geller, a shareholder at Greenspoon Marder, concentrates his practice in land use and zoning, lobbying, and gaming. He represents numerous local and national clients.
