Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – July 24, 2023 – Greenspoon Marder attorneys Sandra Brown and Aliya J. Nelson have been named as honorees in the Lawyers of Color (LoC) inaugural Wonderful Women list for 2023. The list recognizes dynamic women attorneys working in law firms, companies, and government agencies across the U.S. who show promise in their careers and demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession. The honorees were chosen through a two-pronged process, using a selection committee composed of the editorial staff, fellows, and advisers, that spent months reviewing nominations and researching legal publications to identify the promising candidates.
Lawyers of Color (LoC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit devoted to promoting diversity in the legal profession and advancing democracy and equality in marginalized communities. With the initial founding of On Being A Black Lawyer and later On Being a Lawyer of Color in 2008, the nonprofit currently produces additional publications for lawyers with various heritages, including South Asian American, Pacific Asian American, Hispanic, and Native American. LoC provides research, career development, and brand marketing opportunities to its clients and is recognized by multiple legal organizations, including the American Bar Association, the National Black Law Students Association, and the National Association of Black Journalists.
Ms. Nelson brings more than 20 years of corporate, licensing, and entertainment experience as a partner at Greenspoon Marder, focusing on transactional and licensing matters for clients in the cannabis, media, technology, sports, and real estate industries. She has substantial experience in all aspects of corporate and entertainment law, including representing cannabis, sports, media, technology, and marketing companies, as well as Grammy award-winning artists, songwriters, and producers.
Ms. Brown focuses on strategic business counseling to clients and their business and management teams. She works with a broad spectrum of talent, including award-winning recording artists, music producers, and songwriters in Hip Hop, Pop, Rock, and Christian music, as well as independent filmmakers, music managers, music executives, professional athletes, and entertainment companies. Much of Ms. Brown’s practice focuses on structuring and negotiating agreements across the complex and often interconnected areas of recorded music, music publishing, live performances, television talent agreements, independent film production, merchandising, sponsorships, and endorsements.
