Rachel Gillette will be a speaker on the “Moving the Needle at the Federal Level” panel along with New York State Senator Diane J. This panel of lawmakers and regulators will offer an open discussion on the regulatory environment at the local, state and federal level and how they envisage achieving federal legality. Greenspoon Marder partner, Jonathan Weiss, will moderate the “Investment Strategies Involving Cannabis Real Estate” panel which will discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with owning real estate used in the cannabis supply chain.
Ms. Gillette focuses her practice on marijuana/cannabis business licensing and regulatory compliance, business law and transactions, contract drafting and review, civil litigation, corporate formation, and tax matters, including audit representation. Through her current work with cannabis and hemp businesses in a highly regulated industry, Ms. Gillette remains committed to ending the prohibition of cannabis at the national level and ensuring state licensed and legal marijuana businesses are fairly taxed and regulated.
Mr. Weiss has extensive experience in Corporate Real Estate with an emphasis on representing large global companies in leasing, subleasing, development, acquisition, disposition, and financing of office space throughout the U.S. and internationally. Mr. Weiss works closely with senior real estate executives and in-house counsel in structuring complex leasing, purchase and sale transactions, as well as advising his clients on the day-to-day real estate challenges that companies with large and diverse real estate portfolios encounter. In addition, Mr. Weiss is regularly called upon to assist in the transfer of real estate assets in connection with corporate dispositions, acquisitions and mergers of companies with large leasing portfolios. He also acts as ongoing general real estate counsel to one of the largest professional services firms and one of the largest media and market measurement companies in the U.S. In this role, Mr. Weiss has developed comprehensive approaches to real estate portfolio management, including implementing standard form leases, subleases, letters of intent, and requests for proposals.
