Many a ghoulish story is shared over cocktails on Halloween eve. In fact, the cocktails themselves are quite ghoulish in name such as the hellish “Grave Digger” or even more diabolical, the “Morgue-a-Rita.” Yes, Halloween is the night of mischief, and in keeping with the theme of this short-lived blog, we are here to share one of the scarier alcohol stories we are aware of.
Imagine this, if you will, a young man, sipping on his Morgue-a-Rita, turns his head and sees he’s next in line for his try. He gulps back the remainder of his Halloween cocktail, stands, wobbles a bit, and with a mild slur, commands out loud to his compatriots, “hand me that axe.” Yes, never a Halloween drink and activity involving axes been paired so well.
Reader, it’s a thing. For real. Axe throwing has grown in popularity with axe throwing venues opening in many markets. And, yes, many of these new venues, serve and sell alcohol. A short and unprofessional survey of some of these establishments suggest that alcoholic beverages are not consumed in the “axe throwing area” and that staff is trained to spot intoxicated axe throwers. All good things I suppose. Only time will tell.
Not much more one can write about this new trend. Spooky, scary, and appropriate for Halloween…we think so. So, in the spirit of the holiday, I am off to light my Ouzo (the famously strong, distilled spirit from Greece that one ignites just prior to drinking) with a flame thrower. Here’s hoping for the best! Cheers folks.
